There are just too many ways for humans to set fires in these conditions. I would bet most are unintentional but also foreseeable.

Local campsites get super busy due to increasing demand and the common advise is to go "far into the woods" which can be a 20+ hour hike.

Sadly this has led to huge debris fields of trash. I have seen speaker systems, destroyed bikes, coolers, and tons of garbage. The worst thing is seeing the makeshift firepits that were either left smouldering or not doused with water or sand.

There is no real way to enforce a full fire ban when an increasing number of campers are going into places with zero enforcement.

Yes, there is really a shortage of campsites near the metro area. If you don’t plan your trip months in advance, forget it. I almost always end up doing dispersed camping. A bonus is that it’s nice to have no nearby neighbours (and it’s free).

Make those whose unlawful fires turn into wildfires pay the cost of fighting them, even if it drives them into bankruptcy, and publicize it.

AbbyJr wrote: Thu Aug 17, 2023 11:19 pm Wildfires are in fact natural and have always occurred. It's just that as of recent they are happening in more urban areas. It wouldn't surprise me that at least some of them are being deliberately set. However, it would be impossible to prove. Even if they aren't being deliberately set, a lot of them are caused by humans being reckless meaning that they are still avoidable. Lighting caused fires are horrible and unfortunate, but when they are deliberately set by pyromaniacs or reckless behaviour, that's what's infuriating. :x
Why do you always feel a need to low-key gaslight and say stuff like this ?
We ALL know fires happen naturally, dude. But this isn't normal, and climate change is real, and so are people losing their homes.

Plain and simple.

Definitely agree with this. Then you throw in dry and windy conditions and it's a nightmare..

Off roading vehicles like ATVs and dirtbikes may be a big contributor with the sparks they produce.

Either way the fire conditions are what is important, if things were more moist then these fires wouldn't get out of hand so fast. I mean that fire barely started 24 hours ago.
