The weather forecast is a nightmare for those affected by the wildfires in the interior. :thumbdown: :thumbdown: :thumbdown:

Environment Canada Special Weather Statement:
7:53 PM PDT Thursday 17 August 2023

Widespread Gusty Winds and Risk of Thunderstorms

When: Tonight into Friday.

Where: Interior B.C.

Hazards:
Strong, gusty winds shifting from southwest to northwest. Risk of dry lightning. Continued heat (southern interior).

Impacts;
Worsening wildfire conditions, possible new fire starts, risk of breaking tree branches, challenging boating conditions.

Discussion:
There has been a widespread shift to westerly or northwesterly winds of 20 km/h gusting 40 throughout the Central Interior as a dry cold front passed through today. Winds will remain gusty overnight and until late Friday.

Widespread southwesterly winds of 30 km/h gusting 50 continue tonight and will shift to northwesterly 20 km/h gusting 40 throughout the day on Friday for the Southern Interior as the cold front exits the province.

Instability near and behind the cold front may lead to the development of thunderstorms overnight and Friday, The main hazard is localized severe winds with speeds up to or above 70 km/h and dry lightning (lightning that comes with little or no rain).

Drought-stricken trees will be more susceptible to winds.

Check local forecasts for details on wind, thunderstorms, and timing.

Please tune into the BC Wildfire Service for the latest conditions: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safe ... ire-status

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports using #BCStorm.
