A melange of weather along the hwy 16 corridor between McBride and Smithers yesterday. Cold with steady light/moderate rain between McBride and Prince George, before giving way to a mix of sun and cloud in Vanderhoof. Clouds with heavy showers around Burns Lake, mix of sun and cloud in Houston and cloudy with clear breaks in Smithers. Temps hovered around 13-16c in the rain and about 21-24c in the sun.

The Hoof! that's Ty my man's country look for the legend of hungry hill plaque west of Houston Trips and of course you gotta take a shot of the amazing 7 sisters peaks near Hazelton.
Not to confuse anybody 7 sisters mountain is in the Rockies.
We reached a high of 29c in the central valley today.

I'm all for freedom and small government. However, I do believe in common sense rules and personally, I think it should be law that A/C units can not be banned under any circumstance in any building. I was talking to my hair stylist many years ago and she said her mom lives in apartment in one of the upper floors. Unfortunately, A/C units including portables are banned in the building. Her mom is elderly and it gets extremely hot in her room. Its absolutely ridiculous that the government allows townhome/apartment strata's to ban life safety equipment. It's equally ridiculous that any strata would actually seek to ban them. What's the big deal? They make too much noise? I guess we know the priorities of some...

Yes John but what about the shut in's that can't get out and they don't have family to turn to is it not the provinces responsibility then.?
Should there not be a provincial hotline for the vulnerable to call if they need help during a heat warming?

What type of personal responsibility in this case are you referring too? Its not always realistic or easy to just get up and move to a building that has A/C or allows A/C units. It's true that personal responsibility is important. But there are cases when the government should step in.

I understand that its not the governments job to provide A/C's. However, it is their job to put in place common sense laws so that strata's can't ban life safety equipment. Again, I'm all for freedom and small government but small government doesn't mean no government at all. It means a government that intervenes only when absolutely necessary. We have building codes for this reason. Buildings have to be built up to code to ensure it's safe. It's a fact that intense heat causes serious illness and even deaths. Therefore, having A/C is part of life safety and should never be banned under any circumstance.

Looks like some rain before the heat. Especially central coast it's needed there so good news. There are some big fires just inland from Bella Coola.

Its unusual to see a long range ensemble mean in the low to mid 30's. The heatwave is still not a lock but its getting closer every run.

That's looking more run-of-the-mill for August heatwave around here. Latest GFS has most of the intense heat inland and to our South.

Personal responsibility is important also no?

Have you ever heard of simple human compassion? I'm sure if it was your son or daughter in a condo sweating and can barely survive, you would care, correct?

How can you defend any landlord not allowing AC in a climate that needs AC? It's very easy for you to sit back and say that in a comfortable living situation. Also if a landlord says no then that's not what personal responsibility means.

For every 5 good posts you make, you end up throwing out a really disgusting post with zero human empathy. Nothing personal, but I don't get it.

This should be the end of the discussion here, and if anyone is against people having A/C that can prevent serious illness and death, they need to give their head a shake and get out of their privileged ways.

If a strata isn't allowing you, then that isn't you not having " personal responsibilities"

Stage 2 water restrictions in place today for Metro Vancouver. This is erring on the side of caution. There currently is no shortage of water in the reservoirs. This is not like 2015. I think what the water managers are thinking is that because consumption is up (partly due to population growth) and IF we get a late summer drought like last year that goes into October then there could be some issues. These stage 2 restrictions force people to conserve water and to think about conserving water. Its a good habit to get into.
