Re: November 2019 Forecasts and Discussions
Welcome Rubus. I’m down in Bellingham often and have experienced some of their outflow events. The winds can get howling pretty darn good down there. Hopefully you get to experience a few this season.Rubus_Leucodermis wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 5:54 pm Just heard about this forum over at theweatherforums.com and figured I'd create an account here.
Moved to Bellingham this summer from the Seattle area and looking forward to my first cold (i.e. freezing or colder) Fraser outflow event of the season. I have lived in Portland so I suspect the overall effect will be quite similar to the Columbia Gorge outflow winds they can get there.

Well Jr. A fart gives us lowering dewpoints but very slowly lowering air temps. But a blast the air temp lowers much quicker as well as dewpoints. Now a fart also creates friction which actually warms us initially then gradually cools us.
The 7th annual snowfall contest is canceled due to no snow this winter.

Backdoor:AbbyJr wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 6:39 pm I still have never understood this whole "true" vs "backdoor" Arctic blast terminology. During any Arctic blast, we always see NE winds in the valley. So why is it that sometimes the winds drop the temperature and other times they raise them? Can you give me a couple visual examples?

I'm hoping to be skiing at the family condo at Big White in 10 days but that means at least 35cm of snow in a week, that's not likely.stuffradio wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 3:43 pm Welcome Bellingham user! I might drive there after work next week for Black Friday. We'll see!

Re: November 2019 Forecasts and Discussions
I'm already vegan and have found it does help moderate my allergy symptoms somewhat.
What made my hay fever not disappear but get a lot more manageable was moving away from the Willamette Valley and its concentration of grass seed farms. About 80 to 90 percent of the world's grass seed is raised there. To make matters worse, lawn grasses tend to have highly allergenic pollens; three of the big grass seed species raised in the WV rank in the list of the ten most allergenic pollens.
I found a lot to like about Portland but the grass pollen mostly ruined the place for me. Just as soon as the weather finally got reliably warm and sunny after the long rainy season, I'd have to become a shut-in because going outdoors made me get so sick. Totally sucked to miss a huge chunk of the warm season like that.
It's called clown range for a reason.
