Wasn't there a guy from Yale too? He'd always be complaining whenever the canyon got too much snow.Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 5:27 pm We've got most of our members back it would appear, it would appear Skooks most likely passed away while still online so became more or less petrified on the old forum, the movers were unable to bring Skooks over here.
Temps are falling pretty rapidly tonight again...down to 5.1C here already.

Re: November 2019 Forecasts and Discussions
Just heard about this forum over at theweatherforums.com and figured I'd create an account here.
Moved to Bellingham this summer from the Seattle area and looking forward to my first cold (i.e. freezing or colder) Fraser outflow event of the season. I have lived in Portland so I suspect the overall effect will be quite similar to the Columbia Gorge outflow winds they can get there.

The best Fraser outflow events are typically when we see an arctic high descending south from Northern BC with N/NE winds. You've probably noticed the setup for cold/wind down in the gorge requires more of an easterly gradient...which is what most of our arctic blasts over the past decade or so have tended to be. While this still does result in some fairly strong winds in the Fraser Valley, these "backdoor" type of blasts can actually raise temperatures. This is why events such as Dec 2013, Feb 2014 or Jan 2017 weren't nearly as notable here as they were down south in Washington and Oregon.

Re: November 2019 Forecasts and Discussions
The summers are the biggest difference. Significantly warmer in Portland. The place I moved up from was an island near Seattle that thanks to all the nearby salt water averaged about 5 to 7 degrees F cooler than Seattle on summer afternoons. What little I experienced of a Bellingham summer before the weather turned seemed quite similar.Sardisbcwx wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 5:59 pm Welcome RL quite the change from Portland to Bham l suspect, both beautiful areas.
I don't miss the Portland heat waves. I miss the high pollen levels from the grass seed farms in May and June even less.

Re: November 2019 Forecasts and Discussions
I still have never understood this whole "true" vs "backdoor" Arctic blast terminology. During any Arctic blast, we always see NE winds in the valley. So why is it that sometimes the winds drop the temperature and other times they raise them? Can you give me a couple visual examples?Typeing3 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2019 6:02 pm Welcome!
